Virtual: VR Meetup at Virtual Mixxer Makerspace

In response to COVID-19, Mixxer Makerspace invites all residents of North Carolina to join a VR meetup to find out what is going on in different parts of the state and see how VR can help us in such a difficult time. This meetup is for people who actively use VR equipment, such as Oculus Quest, HTC Vive, etc, but this program is also available on IOS, Android devices, and PC. You will be able to participate in the meetup remotely even without VR headset. The most immersive and interactive experience will be via VR equipment. To make the event more interactive, the Mixxer Makerspace will be recreated in Virtual Reality. The project is not easy, so more creative minds and hands would definitely help. If you’re a seeker for an opportunity to shine your creativity, explore technologies of tomorrow, or just busy yourself with something in your spare quarantine time, join us, and let’s build something beautiful.
Mixxer will use the “Rec Room” application as a platform to meet up. Rec Room is a popular VR application where people can create virtual worlds, meet new people, and play different games together. Due to the significant traffic in the Rec Room Universe, our virtual world, “Mixxer,” is going to be private. It means you need to receive an invitation to access the virtual world. To receive an invitation, you need to download the “Rec Room” app on your VR headset/PC/Apple device/Android device and create an account.
How to create an account in Rec Room:
For Oculus:
1. Go to Oculus Store https://www.oculus.com/experiences/rift/1257029974329451/(Either in VR headset or on PC)
2. Look up for “Rec Room” and download it
3. Launch the “Rec Room”
4. On welcome window choose “Create a new account”
5. Then, when you finish, it should be a small tutorial on how to navigate inside the world
6. Don’t forget to send me your nickname and feel free to explore worlds yourself!
For HTC Vive and PC users:
1. Go to “Steam”https://store.steampowered.com/app/471710/Rec_Room/
2. Create an account in Steam if you don’t have one
3. Download “Rec Room”
4. Launch the “Rec Room”
5. On welcome window choose “Create a new account”
6. Then, when you finish, it should be a small tutorial on how to navigate inside the world

For smartphones:
1. Go to Apple Store/ Google Store
2. Look up for “Rec Room” and download it
